The Canon iP1600 replaces the iP1500 previously available. The iP1600 matches the low cost of the previous printer but produces great quality borderless photo's in quick time. Approximately 70 seconds for a standard 4 x 6 photo Canon now states there print speeds as the time it take to print a borderless lab quality 4x6 photo on default settings. The iP1600 uses a 2 cartridge system, 1 for black and 1 for a three colour cartridge. This is one of the first printers from canon to use the new Chromalife 100 ink technology. This new technology is a result of Canon's laboratory testing, the result is a super long life ink that lasts longer than previous inks in everyday conditions. The Chromalife 100 technology consists of the FINE print heads on selected printers, the new Chromalife inks for these printers and a new set of photo papers by canon. But together the new results can be achieved. Photo's are not always stored in the same conditions. The Chromalife technology is design to resist fading from a number of sources. Canon quotes that the system can keep a photo from fading for up to 100 years in archival condition (not exposed to light). Up to 30 years sealed behind glass in light conditions and up to 10 years fade free in open air. Learn more on the Chromalife 100 system at Canon.com
