Canon's PIXMA iP90 focuses on the need for a portable printer with all the
features of a desktop printer. The iP90 a number of wireless connectivity
features to allow you to print from a number of devices such as PC's,
PDA's camera phones and more. Connect to the iP90 via USB 2.0, IrDA or an
optional Bluetooth interface to get great prints on the move. All this as well
as supporting PictBridge for direct printing from compatible digital cameras.
For true portability you will need to buy a battery though which will cost a
bit extra. However these days trains and plains offer sockets to plug such
devices into so you really can work on the move.
Just because the iP90
is portable does not mean that it lacks anything in printing quality, although
not as powerful as the top of the range desktop models, the iP90 still holds
its own as a home printer and is a quality printer on the move, compact and
light, designed to travel. You get a max resolution of 4800 x 1200 with the
Canon's FINE print heads and 2 picolitre droplet size.
The paper tray for the
iP90 doubles as the lid which closes to make the compact iP90 easy to carry. A
suitable bag could carry a laptop computer and the iP90 easily on your
travels. A couple of nifty features for a mobile printer have been added to
the iP90. Firstly there is the save black ink feature, this is similar to the
draft function on some desktop printers. The idea here is to cut down the
amount of black ink on the page, this does make the text slightly greyer than
black, but perfect for drafts or documents for your own personal use. The
second feature is use composite black. This features is handy if you run out
of black ink, usually that would be the end of your printing as black is the
most used colour and is whets used when printing text. The use composite black
function instructs the printer to create black out of the colours in the
second cartridge. This obviously isn't as efficient as using black but could
well get you out of a situation one day.

The iP90 prints photos directly from any PictBridge compatible digital camera

Portability and lasting power
When no mains power is available, Canon's optional Li-ion battery ensures the

lighter socket. So everyone can print everywhere.
